Willie McCreery reports Insinuendo on target for the Moyglare ‘Jewels’ Blandford Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday week, part of the Longines Irish Champions Weekend.
The daughter of Gleneagles has already won at Group 2 level having landed the Kilboy Estate Stakes at the Curragh last summer and has filled the runner-up spot on both outings this term at the same venue behind classy Ballydoyle inmates.
Insinuendo reappeared in the Lodge Park Stud EBF Park Express Stakes behind Mother Earth and connections decided to give her a break with a view to an autumn campaign.
She again ran a cracker last month when only touched off a neck by Luxembourg in the Fitzdares Royal Whip Stakes over the same ten-furlong trip as the ‘Blandford’ and an unsettled weather forecast is a timely boost.
“She’s in good form and goes for the Blandford. Some rain would be a help,” said McCreery.
“We could have run last Saturday (in the Snow Fairy Stakes) but we felt running her in the Royal Whip would give her a bit more time before the Blandford.”
The five-year-old mare, who was fourth in the Blandford 12 months ago, also won the Group 3 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Blue Wind Stakes at Naas last year.
