Gavin Cromwell is targeting a number of the feature races at next week’s Galway Festival and plans to be doubly represented in the Tote Galway Plate with both Gabynako and Jeremys Flame.

Gabynako won over 2m5f at Fairyhouse last season before finishing second to Beacon Edge in the Drinmore Novice Chase at the same venue.

The seven-year-old gelding was also Grade 1 placed on all three outings since including when runner-up to Edwardstone in the Arkle at Cheltenham.

Jeremys Flame won twice over fences earlier this year including over the Plate trip of 2m6f at Thurles.

Cromwell said, “I have Gabynako and Jeremys Flame in the Plate and I’m looking forward to the two of them.

“We gave them a bit of a break after their winter campaign and have trained them for the Plate.

“Gabynako was second in the Arkle and is likely to have plenty of weight while Jeremys Flame has plenty of experience and she could be in there with a nice racing weight. The trip will be ideal for her.”

There is also total prizemoney of €270,000 on offer in the Guinness Galway Hurdle and My Mate Mozzie could take his chance in the Thursday highlight.

“We have My Mate Mozzie for the Hurdle and he could also go for the amateur Flat race (Connacht Hotel (QR) Handicap) on the Monday. The prizemoney is massive and we’ll leave his options open.

“They all like a bit of nice ground. Obviously we all want it safe and I’m sure they will do a good job on that.”

It will be interesting to see what rating the 141 hurdler My Mate Mozzie gets on the Flat while Dutch Schultz is another possible in the Connacht Hotel (QR) Handicap for the Danestown trainer.

The later won in impressive fashion on his latest Flat start at Gowran Park last October and has been campaigned since over hurdles.
