Sadie’s Pride (12/1), in the Big Zeb colours of Patrick Joseph Redmond, was an emphatic winner of the Tomcoole Farm Ltd Maiden Hurdle.

Regular rider James Kenny gave the Kalanisi mare, trained in Craanford near Gorey by his father Liam, a patient steer and she was travelling strongly when hitting the front off the final turn. From there she bounded clear to beat Eyre Square and The Gradual Slope by five and a half lengths and five lengths.

The 11/5 favourite Chiricahua was prominent when making a bad mistake and unseating Bryan Cooper just after halfway.

The winning seven-year-old had landed a bumper at Tramore last summer.

Winning trainer Liam Kenny said: “She did it well as the last day she was far from beat on soft ground in Gowran. It’s grand that she will go on both types of ground.

“We’ll probably pick out a race in Punchestown and it would be nice to get some black type somewhere along the line.”
