Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase favourite Prengarde is settling into his new home in Co Limerick as trainer Enda Bolger gets him ready for a prep run ahead of the Cheltenham Festival.
JP McManus recently acquired the six-year-old who was unbeaten in his last five starts over fences in France with all of those victories coming at Compiegne, four of which were over the cross-country course at that northern venue. His last outing before leaving the care of Hector de Lageneste and Guillaume Macaire saw him win a Listed race over 3m3f on the cross-country course in November.
Prengarde is a best price of 5/1 to give banks maestro Bolger another win in the cross-country event at the festival which he has previously won on five occasions.
"He's a gorgeous looking horse and I'm very lucky that I have him,” said Bolger.
“I don't know where we're going to go with him, he might have a tune up over hurdles.
“He knows enough about jumping, he's very professional in his races.”
Asked whether he had been schooled over the cross-country course at Howardstown he added:- “No, there is no need for it. We've just let him settle in and enjoy himself.
“He's going to take a run because he hasn't run since November. Then he had to travel, settle in and acclimatise. Mr McManus and Frank (Berry) will point him in the right direction anyway.”
