Mick Halford is pondering the next step for exciting prospect Roman Turbo following his victory in the Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh.

The son of Holy Roman Emperor showed a neat turn of foot in the closing stages to take Saturday’s Group Three honours over six and a half furlongs, and back up his debut victory on the same course last month.

“He stepped forward well from his maiden win, and we were delighted with him,” said Halford.

“He’s a horse with a great attitude and he’s progressive.

“I’m still talking to his owner (Sammy Hon Kit Ma), and he’s just enjoying his success the other day.

“We’ll make a plan with him as the week goes on and see how he comes out of it. Things are up in the air.”

Halford said immediately after the race that the owner may want to pursue the colt’s career in Hong Kong at some stage, but for the short term at least the unbeaten juvenile will remain with him.

“He looks like staying put for the time being, and we’ll just see how he is and decide on a course of action from there,” added the County Kildare handler.

“We have plenty of options, and the way he hit the line he’d go seven (furlongs) no bother.”
