Stuart Crawford was perplexed by how quickly Fine Rightly stopped after looking the likely winner of the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock on Saturday.
Andrew Lynch was sat motionless at the third-last on the 10-year-old but when push came to shove, he found disappointingly little and faded to be last of the five finishers.
"We went there expecting a good run and it was the first time this season he was really running over what is more his trip," said Crawford.
"Everything went right in the race. There was plenty of pace, he travelled well and he jumped well.
"Turning into the straight or, even halfway up it, I thought he must go close or even win, but we're disappointed that he stopped very quickly.
"I don't know why. We'll see if there's an issue there but he came home fine. I'm pleased on one hand, but disappointed on the other.
"There's a race at Down Royal (Daily Mirror Chase) he's won before and also a Grade Three at Cork (Imperial Call Chase) he could run in next.
"Hopefully all the stars will align for him to win a big one soon."
