Tommy Brett rode his first winner since April and his seventh overall when Father Jed sprung a 25/1 surprise in the Your Clubs Fundraiser At Fairyhouse, Enquire Today Handicap Hurdle.

Seven pound claimer Brett gave the Kutub gelding a patient steer from the back, and the eight-year-old led before the last and ultimately held the staying on Ask David by a length and three parts.

Fr Gilligansvoyage (14s into 9s) ended up a neck back in third. Tungsten Kid the gambled-on favourite, took the inside route. He should be able to build on his fifth place finish here.

“He got an injury and it took a few runs to get him back,” said winning trainer John Ryan.

“He'll be a lovely horse over fences, he's a really good jumper.

“I'm delighted for Tommy Brett, he's with me most mornings and he's a great lad. It's great for him and it's great when everything goes right.

“He'll go on a little softer than that. He's a nice horse, it probably wasn't the strongest of races and I wouldn't want to get too carried away but he won anyway and I'm not too worried about what's behind him.

“He's not the quickest in the world but he's not too bad and he'll be better over fences.”

T. Ryan, rider of Baby Bellini trained by I.Madden, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung slightly left throughout and jumped left at times.
