25/1 shot Western Boy completed a big priced double for Pat Fahy at Ballinrobe this evening when running out a convincing winner of the John Madden & Sons Handicap.

Fahy had been on the mark earlier with 50/1 winner Dani's Boy and completed the 1325/1 brace when the veteran JP McManus-owned runner struck on his return from an absence.

Gavin Ryan 's mount was a bit slow to get into stride and had to come round the field turning for home.

He struck the lead entering the straight, however, and soon asserted to record a two-length victory over Happy Company

The 11-year-old was making his first start since running over hurdles at Down Royal in March 2019.

“We’d be hoping to go to Galway if there was a mile and a half race there for him,” said Fahy.

“I was going to run him at Limerick but the ground was too hard and Frank (Berry, McManus' racing manager) was happy enough for him to come here.

“You’ll always get safe ground here.”
